The Adventures of the Fifth Fleet
The stories of the crews of the
starships of the Federation Fifth Fleet have been published in several fan
club newsletters.
Sensor Scan, the USS Arcturus Newsletter, was published from 1988 until
1994. It featured the adventures of
the crew of the Tikopai-class starship USS Arcturus
NCC-1807 during the era of the Star Trek films (specifically ST II
through V), and later the Arcturus-class starship
USS Arcturus
NCC-1807-A during the Next Gen era.
Wormhole Warble, the USS
Sarek Newsletter, was published from Spring 1994 until Winter 1995. It mainly featured the adventures of the
crew of the USS Sarek
NCC-72075, a Galaxy-class starship and the first Federation starship
assigned to explore the Gamma Quadrant of the galaxy, taking place between
Earth years 2370 and 2371.
Wormhole Warble also featured several adventures of the crew of Arcturus-A, the ship where many of the Sarek
characters originated.
Subspace Chatter, the USS
Dauntless Newsletter, 1st Edition was originally published from Fall 1996 until Spring 2001. The newsletter, for the first three
years, featured the adventures of the crew of the Intrepid-class starship USS Dauntless NCC-74658 over the
course of Earth years 2372 through 2374.
Starting in the fourth year, the vessel changed to the
Sovereign-class USS Dauntless
NCC-75310 and continued through Earth years 2375 and 2376.
Subspace Chatter also featured previously unpublished stories of the USS Arcturus
and USS Sarek
that had not made it into Wormhole
Warble before that newsletter ceased publication.
Subspace Chatter discontinued publication in 2001 when the fan club chapter
moved from New England to Virginia.
Subspace Chatter, the USS
Dauntless Newsletter, 2nd Edition started publishing in early 2004
when the fan association USS
Dauntless was re-established in eastern Massachusetts. The newsletter was published as the
official USS Dauntless newsletter
from 2004 until Fall 2008 and covered Earth years
2380 through 2384. The newsletter
was re-booted with the launch of the Fifth Fleet in January 2009.
Subspace Chatter, the Fifth
Fleet Newsletter,
3rd Edition began publication in October 2008 and at first
continued the adventures of the crew of the USS Dauntless NCC-75310 in Earth year 2385 before leading to
the commissioning of the Federation Fifth Fleet in 2386, which includes not
only Dauntless but the starships USS Bellerophon,
USS Sarek,
USS Besiege, USS Triton, and
their command base, Starbase 719, on the edge of the final
frontier.
