Brief History of IKV Hem BortaStaH
The IKV Proud Vengeance (Hem BortaStaH in Klingonese) was
launched from the Makura Clan's own semi-automated shipyard in the Mempa Sector in Earth year 2374, during the early
months of the Dominion War. Launched
six months early to allow several other Klingon vessels
damaged in battle to be repaired, the Proud
Vengeance was still only partially armored, and was without most of her
crew upon launch.
Assigned to the command
of General Ke’reth zantai
Makura, son of Ton’arg, former commanding officer
of the IKV Diplomacy, a warship which
was damaged beyond repair in a battle with the Jem’Hadar,
the Proud Vengeance was launched
without isomagnetic cannons and while her second
warp core was still being tested at only 50% power. Her initial assignment was to participate
in the First Battle of Chin’toka and capture three
of the automated Dominion shipyards there that had been left almost defenseless,
lay claim to them for the Empire, and use one of these to complete the
construction and fitting-out of the qaDwI-class
carrier.
Two weeks after launch,
the crew of Proud Vengeance,
operating under cloak, found themselves following a small unescorted Cardassian fleet of six troop transports. In spite of his ship’s condition, still
without much of her advanced weaponry - including a couple of gaping holes
where the isomagnetic cannons would later be
installed - General Ke’reth gave the order to
attack, destroying the Cardassian ships. Ke’reth told
his crew that “…Proud Vengeance
had tasted the enemies blood, and cried out for
more…” and that “…her name, Proud
Vengeance, was for the damage done to the Diplomacy.”
The Proud Vengeance finally finished her fitting-out with the
installation of her isomagnetic cannons in 2376, three
months after the end of the Dominion War.
In 2377, Proud Vengence
engaged in battle with a Borg Tactical Cube. The victory resulted in the Vengeance capturing a Borg transwarp coil that was later successfully installed in
the Klingon warship by her chief engineer.
In 2386, at the request of
the Federation Starfleet, Proud
Vengeance was placed on special assignment by Chancellor Martok to the Federation Fifth Fleet, based at Starbase 719 in the Typhon
Sector. Shortly after joining the
fleet, the Vengeance tasted blood
once again as she battled against vessels of the Kairn
Empire, during which the Klingon ship performed
the first known successful transwarp towing of a
Federation starship, the Soveregn-class USS Dauntless, while responding to a
distress call by the USS Bellerophon.
