Brief History of the USS Bellerophon
The USS Bellerophon NCC-74705 is an
Intrepid-class starship launched from Utopia Planitia
Fleetyard, Mars in 2373 under the command of
Captain Garrett Rochell. She is the fourth Federation starship to
bear the name. The first Bellerophon
was a Hyperion-class starship, registry NCC-869, in service from 2212 to
2259. The second was a
Columbia-class starship, registry NCC-1787, in service from 2268 to 2301. The third was a Nebula-class starship,
registry NCC-62048, in service from 2363 until it was destroyed during the Battle of Wolf-359 in
2367 and for which the current Intrepid-class starship is named.
One of the highlights of
the Bellerophon’s
early missions include being the first Federation starship to officially
visit Romulus, homeworld of the Romulan Star Empire, when a diplomatic mission led by
Admiral William Ross participated in a conference hosted by the Romulans in 2375.
Following the end of the
Dominion War, Bellerophon
returned to her primary mission of exploration, charting and exploring new
sectors beyond Beta Stromgren in the Beta
Quadrant, still under the command of Captain Rochell. Then, in 2385, Bellerophon entered drydock at Earth
Station McKinley for overhaul and upgrade, including the addition of a
new Astrometrics Lab based upon the design
employed by Bellerophon’s
sistership USS
Voyager NCC-74656. During this
time the majority of the starship’s senior staff were promoted or
transferred, Commodore Rochell receiving an
assignment to Starfleet Command Headquarters on Earth.
Shortly before Bellerophon’s
return to space, she was assigned to the command of Captain K’danz, recently transferred from the USS Dauntless, who brought her own
First Officer, Chief Engineer, Chief Science Officer and Security Chief
along from her previous command. In
early 2386, Bellerophon
departed drydock and was assigned to the Fifth
Fleet, based at Starbase 719 in the Typhon
Sector.
